Career Pathways to Teaching
Designed for students who want to be teachers, the Career Pathways to Teaching class is a year-long course that has two components: education theory and practicum. Students observe in each of the elementary buildings as well as the Pre-school, middle school and junior high buildings and at every grade level to determine their desired teaching level preference for the practicum component. Once they are placed the student assists their cooperating teacher and works with the students weekly. Using theory presented in class, students have an opportunity to implement and design learning strategies. This real-world application assists students in determining if the teaching career is truly a good fit for them and gives them highly desired experience working with younger students. All students in the class are members of Educators Rising and participate in various leadership activities through the CTSO.
Educators Rising is a Career & Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that is affiliated with the National Educators Association (NEA).
Educators Rising activates highly skilled educators by guiding young people on a path to becoming accomplished teachers beginning in high school and extending through college and into the profession.
Teachers of the Quarter
Teachers of the Quarter is a program designed by the internal Grow Your Own Initiative committee as a way to celebrate the great teachers in our district that make a difference in the classroom each and every day. Our community partner is Ahrazue Wilt with American Family Insurance. Quarterly, Ms. Wilt graciously donates a gift package for the two teachers selected as well as sponsoring an electronic billboard at the corner of Broadway Blvd. and Thompson Drive featuring the teachers photos.
