A couple of days ago I learned a new word. I am guessing it is probably new to a lot of you as well (with the exception of maybe Greg Willson at SCHS!). Greg is a walking Britannica!
You may not know the word, but I assure you the meaning is not a foreign one.
Akrasia - Webster defines this as a philosophy of weakness of will; acting in a way contrary to one's sincerely held moral values.
Let us dig a little deeper and simplify at the same time. Akrasia is credited to the ancient philosophers Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato.
Simply put akrasia is about procrastination, and why we are so darn good at it! After learning this word in a podcast I dug deeper and found an interesting little article. So I am sharing!
I believe knowing this about ourselves and our students may help create strategies and habits that better engage us in all our endeavors both physically and mentally.
