Hair, makeup a beautiful money-maker
While most Smith-Cotton High School students who have jobs work at fast food restaurants or supermarkets, Jennifer Paz earns money by applying makeup and doing her clients’ hair.
Paz runs a beauty business that she describes as small, but she enjoys it.
“I started this business about a year ago now, for the basic reason that I love makeup and beauty, but also to pay for my college classes,” she said.
Paz said the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed down her flow of customers.
“Before COVID, I would have clients almost every day, but now I don’t have as many because of the pandemic, which sucks but I continue to do it because I love it,” she said.
Amanda Harvey, the Jobs for America’s Graduates teacher at S-C, describes Paz as a kind-hearted and well-spirited person.
“Jennifer is an exemplary student and human. She is always so kind and optimistic. Her positive attitude tends to rub off on those she is around,” Harvey said.
Harvey believes that a big reason Paz is so positive is because of her business.
“Jennifer seems happiest when she is able to express herself creatively and through makeup application. She does great work abd is someday going to apply makeup for me,” Harvey said. “We are just waiting for the right opportunity.”
Paz hopes that one day she might be able to open up her own major makeup store like Ulta or Sephora.
“I want to open my own store where I sell not only other makeup products, but my own brand of makeup as well,” she said.
