Tigers, Lady Tigers track teams ready to run
With warmer weather right around the corner, Smith-Cotton High School will be starting spring sports very soon, track included.
Smith-Cotton Track Head Coach Brad Hagedorn is very excited for the season as there will be new athletes there, which means more opportunities to better a student as an athlete and also better the returning team members.
“I expect us to be better than we were last year, I expect us to grow as athletes, I expect us to be good students, but most importantly I expect us to be good people,” Hagedorn said.
He believes that the runners will face challenges, such as being a very young team, being inexperienced, as well as going against Class 5 competition, but he believes that they will find a way to overcome the adversity as the teams have done in the past.
Smith-Cotton senior Calyssa Plymell believes the same thing. She knows that the team will be young and inexperienced, but she also believes that the team will be very ambitious. She sees the team not only winning various individual events, but also winning different team events as well. She has very high hopes for herself heading into her senior season.
“I’m very excited for this season,” she said. “It’s my senior year and I am looking forward to maybe breaking some records and winning track meets.”
Senior Davin Scribner is looking forward to helping the underclassmen improve in many different ways, including being better track runners and students. He is hoping that the upperclassmen will do the same.
“One of my goals this season is to work together and encourage your teammates to do the best that they can,” Scribner said.
He believes that this team will find a way to overcome any challenges that are thrown at them because they are very resilient and work hard to overcome obstacles.
The first track meet is March 23 at The University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
