Senior Profile: Hannah Fujii
Hannah Fujii is known at Smith-Cotton for her participation in JROTC and the girls swim and dive team, but people know little about her competing in cowboy mounted shooting.
Mounted horse shooting, also known as cowboy mounted shooting, involves riding horseback and shooting old cowboy single-action 45-caliber pistols at balloons. The goal is to shoot all the balloons and run the fastest time.
¨This year will be my third year competing in the sport,” Fujii said. “I moved up to a ladies Level 2 shooter last year, which is where I still currently stand. But my horse and I have come home with at least $2,000 total worth of shooting checks.¨
Fujii, who was active in S-C’s JROTC program all four years of high school, was a member of the national championship Raiders team. She encouraged students to be dedicated to their own interests and not worry about others’ opinions.
¨You may find it extremely hard to fit in, but don't let them define your passions and your hobbies just because it's different,¨ she said.
After graduation, Fujii plans to attend State Fair Community College and hopes one day to become a personal horse trainer.
¨In 10 years from now, I hope to be living in Montana or Wyoming, and training competitive mounted shooting horses,¨ she said.
