Each year, Smith-Cotton High journalists' work is evaluated by media and communications professionals for the Tiger Times Awards. Here are the category winners for the 2020-21 school year (click on the headlines to read the stories):

Jonathan Tester is the journalism teacher at Smith-Cotton High School; he is assisted by Bob Satnan, the communications director for Sedalia School District 200.
Smith-Cotton journalists participate in the Rookie Reporters program, a pilot project with the Sedalia Democrat and Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri. Students' stories are published in the Democrat to enhance public knowledge of Sedalia 200 students, staff and events.
