Frequently Asked ACT Questions
What is the ACT?
The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions. It measures your skills in English, Math, Reading, Science, and has an optional Writing (Essay) section.
How is the ACT scored?
Each section is scored from 1 to 36. Your composite score is the average of those four sections.
Do I have to take the ACT to go to college?
Not always. Many colleges are test-optional, but some still require or recommend ACT or SAT scores, especially for scholarships.
How do I register for the ACT?
Go to act.org, create an account, choose a test date, and register online. There is a fee, but fee waivers are available for students who qualify. You also want to talk to your counselor to see if you qualify for a free test.
What should I bring on test day?
You should bring your photo ID, admission ticket, #2 pencils, approved calculator, snacks, and water.
